What you need to do

  • 1. Let us know: To end your tenancy, you must give us at least four weeks' written notice, by completing the 'Notice to Terminate Tenancy' form.

    You can download this to print and sign or contact our Customer Care team and they will post one to you. 

    Once you've completed the form, you can either scan/take a photo and email it to us or send it by post.

  • 2. We'll arrange a visit: Once we’ve received your form, we’ll arrange to visit and inspect your home before your tenancy ends. 

    During this visit, we’ll advise on anything that needs to be removed and any repairs you need to fix before the tenancy ends.

  • 3. Get your home ready: See the 'Things you need to do before you move out' list below.
  • 4. Move out: If you have a weekly tenancy, it runs from Monday to Sunday, and your notice will always end on a Sunday. You must return all keys by 12 noon the following Monday. If you don't return the keys on time, we'll charge another week’s rent.

Things you need to do before you move out

Please follow these steps to avoid any extra charges or legal costs after you leave. 

If you've made alterations
If you've altered or improved your home (other than decorating), please check with us before you leave to see whether you need to put the property back into its original condition.
  • You must replace any missing fixtures
  • Restoration work must be done by a professional tradesperson 
  • Work to gas appliances or installations must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Complete any repairs
Make good any damage and complete any repairs that are your responsibility. 

You must make good any damage or complete repairs that are your responsibility before moving out. We'll agree what's required during our inspection visit.

Repair responsibilities

Clear all your items from the property
Please remove all your belongings and furniture from your home, including carpets and anything in the cupboards, loft, garden and outside stores.

You also need to remove all rubbish.

If you leave anything behind, we’ll charge you for disposing of it. 

Clean the property
Please leave the property in a clean condition. 
Clear your rent account
Please make sure your rent account is fully up to date before your tenancy ends.  
Take meter readings
Before handing in the keys, please take final readings for your gas and electricity meters.
  • Notify your suppliers about your change of address.
  • Let us know who your suppliers are. 
Let us know your forwarding address
Please let us know your new or forwarding address.

You’ll also need to let your Council Tax office know. 

Return all keys
You must return all keys to the property by 12 noon on the Monday after your tenancy ends.
  • Your housing officer will arrange a date and time to collect the keys from you in person.
  • If you don't return the keys on time, we'll charge you another week’s rent. 
  • Please make sure you return all keys for the property, including communal entrances, garages and any others (for example, meter keys and fobs).
  • If you don't return all keys, we will charge you for the cost of changing locks.
