Everyone should feel safe, comfortable and independent in their home.

If you have a disability, or find it hard to get around because of a long-term health condition, you may be able to get adjustments to your home to make daily life easier for you.

Arrange adaptations in your home

Getting an assessment
The first step is to contact your GP and ask for a home assessment from an Occupational Therapist.
  • Having a home assessment is free
  • The Occupational Therapist will liaise with your local council about your requirements, and confirm if you are eligible for any funding assistance
  • Once they've done their assessment, the Occupational Therapist  will write a report recommending adaptations and equipment. This will include detailed drawings and specifications. They will send this to you and us.
  • Any adaptations need to be approved by the association.
  • We may be able to cover the costs of smaller aids and adaptations. (for example, grab rails).
Help with costs for bigger adaptations
Depending on your financial circumstances, you may be entitled to help with some or all the costs of any adaptions through the grant funding system.

Your Occupational Therapist will tell you more. Please take a look at the NHS website for further information.

What to do next
If you've had an assessment by an Occupational Therapist, they will ask us to approve the recommended works.

If you’re arranging for the work to be done privately, you must get written permission from us first. We’ll need details of the work you would like carried out, and who will make the changes.
