Care packages for the homeless
Over the last couple of months, the Midlands Rural Housing (MRH) team have been creating Christmas care packages for the homeless across Leicestershire.
Coordinated by Maxine Whitehead from the customer care team (CCT), the team have donated essential items like toothbrushes and toothpastes, deodorants, wet wipes, hats, gloves, socks, hand warmers, pot noodles, biscuits and chocolates.
The items are packed into boxes, wrapped and given out as Christmas presents to homeless people. The team at MRH, along with their friends and family, have filled a brilliant 43 boxes! Maxine said:
“Alayne Haberfield and Leonie Aldridge in the CCT team have helped me wrap the presents and it’s certainly got us feeling Christamassy!”
Maxine got involved with the care packages through her cousin, Caz Chapman, who started the scheme last year. In Caz’s café, Deli Bites in Lougborough, she also has a ‘pay it forward board’, where customers can buy some food or a drink for a needy person to pick up later for free.
The packages will be delivered to homeless shelters across Leicestershire and also given to people living on the streets.
Last year they gave out 824 packages, and with Midlands Rural help they are well on their way to reaching their target of 1000 this year.
